We are so glad that you are here!
St. Matthew’s is a family-friendly church that seeks to encourage and grow each young person in their relationship with God through a variety of opportunities to both learn and to serve. What you will find in our Youth ministry:
- Safe place to build relationships
- Teaching that is firmly rooted in the Bible
- Loving community that spans generations
- Lively and welcoming community of families
- Activities going on all week long
It's not just for the kids though! Our families enjoy fellowship and learning activities targeted at the adults, as well. One of our most frequent activities is our Wednesday Night Fellowship (check the Calendar for dates), where we enjoy a community potluck followed by a youth event (usually Children's Choir), free childcare for the youngest ones, and an hour for the adults to bond and learn.
Our Youth Group is actively involved in:
Service Projects: Raking leaves, clean-up projects, making meals, baking pies; our youth have many opportunities to shape their hearts for service.
Mission Trips: All youth are encouraged to attend one of our mission trip opportunities. This summer we will return to Cherokee, NC. Next year we hope to offer an international mission experience as well.
Youth Retreats: Our group enjoys two retreats each year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Our favorite retreat location is Camp Willow Run on Lake Gaston in NC.
Confirmation Class: Students of any age who wish to be Confirmed are invited to attend our five-week class that typically meets near the beginning of each calendar year.
Sunday School: Our middle and high school students meet at 9:15 am for food, fellowship, and Bible-centered teaching in Matt’s Place using a lectionary based curriculum that makes it easy for families to learn and live out their faith together. Join us for some muffins and meaningful conversation.
Acolyte Program: Our 6-12 grade youth serve during Worship Services as torch bearers, banner bearers, and crucifers. Several Acolyte trainings are held throughout the year.
Our children's programs on Sunday include:
Sunday School: The children's Sunday schools has classes open for toddlers-preK, K-1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th, and the middle and high school groups above. Nursery childcare is available at this time.
Nursery and Toddler Childcare: Drop your children off in one of our clean and safe rooms where dedicated and trained workers provide excellent care.
Godly Play: Available to children in grades K-2 during Sunday School (9:15-10:15) AND to all preschool children ages 3 and up during the 10:30 Worship Service. The Godly Play approach helps children to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language, and to enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play.
Children’s Church: Available every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of the month to all K-1 students. Children are dismissed during the gradual hymn and return during the Sharing of the Peace.
Parenting in the Pew: There are a variety of resources at the back of the church in the Narthex to help your child during the worship service. Pew bags, children’s bulletins, and a variety of books are there for your use each week.
